MC’d by Arnold Geerdts and Marius Roberts, the event drew nearly 900 men and women and entertained and informed them on a magical afternoon where breast cancer survivors were celebrated and those lost, remembered.
All funds raised at each event via sales of tables to corporates as well as auctions, go towards
assisting in the running of the mobile Mammography and Educational trucks – the M-Net Mobile Breast Check Units - which provide free mammograms and education in rural areas, and also assist government hospitals who do not have mammography facilities. The vehicles are available to any corporates for wellness days and can also provide education in Universities and schools.
Speakers included breast cancer survivor and founder of Project Fairytale Penelope Howie and breast cancer survivor and founder of Pink Link Samantha Galliet, who inspired guests with their tales of battling cancer and coming out the other side stronger than ever.
A fashion show sponsored by Truworths saw celebrity guests like Amy Kleinhans strutting their stuff on the catwalk while the 4 Divas, Idols Sasha-Lee, Jason and Graeme wowed the crowd with spectacular performances.
The lunches also provide a forum for women – and men – to donate old bras in an effort to beat the world record of 117 007 in Cyprus, which will be donated to women in rural areas to improve their posture and health.
With two more lunches – and two more golf days – to go, the project is well on it’s way to kick-starting a major movement across the country which will save the lives of millions of women.
